Isolation has made us appreciate our national beauty spots like never before. Now, we realize we
don’t have to go to faraway places to enjoy our holidays and the upcoming summer season. The Cotswolds might be many Britons’ dream destination until we can travel overseas again.
Still, the scenery of this inviting and idyllic city on our doorstep can (2 hours’ drive from London), perhaps, inspire you to discover other dream destinations in the UK instead of jetting off to places thousands of miles away. Here’s what is waiting for you in the Cotswolds.
1.Westonbirt Arboretum
One of the most spectacular tree gardens in the UK (and the world as well), Westonbirt Arboretum is home to thousands of trees and lovely shrubs. Spread across 600 acres, you can enjoy walking and exploring rare specimens and wild areas.
Wildlife in this amazing arboretum, bird-eye views, and fresh air make a perfect combo for people who want to relax and learn something more about one of the country’s national treasures. The whole family can enjoy a picnic here, join a workshop, or visit one of the numerous exhibitions.
2. Sudeley Castle
Sudeley Castle is a type of place everyone enjoys – families with kids, couples, and the elderly. It gives off royal vibes as Katherine Parr, Charles I, and Elizabeth I spent a lot of their time here. The place was restored two centuries ago but original, opulent castle rooms and ruins stayed for the good.
You can immerse yourself in one of the most beautiful gardens on this 1,200-acre estate. Just looking around and exploring the rich history of Sudeley Castle will keep you busy for 3 to 5 hours. If knights and armors give you chills, the medieval spirit of this castle will leave you speechless.
3. Farm Park
This place is a must-visit for animal lovers and kids. Cotswolds Farm Park is a home of numerous common and rare breeds and their goal is to teach visitors the importance of protecting endangered animal breeds for future generations.
Visitors can bottle-feed goats, get hands-on newly born chicks and piglets, taste delicious local Cotswolds puddings, and visit the Farm Shop. If you are passionate about animals and farming, you will have a lovely day spent at this 30-something-year-old farm.
4. Castle Combe
Probably the main reason tourists love the Cotswolds is for its picturesque villages. Castle Combe is the loveliest of them all but it would be unfair not to mention Bibury and Bourton-on-the-Water are equally charming. Honey-colored cottages, pebblestone pathways, and traditional food – time flies in these welcoming, home-like villages.
Summary
Fairly near to London, the Cotswolds make an ideal destination for weekend breaks. This place can give you the best insight into medieval English life and culture as well as country life. There are plenty of things to do and see so make sure to have your
travel money ready before heading to
the villages.
