The things all the islands share? Bioluminescent plankton, jungle-clad interiors and stretches of golden sand and azure waters. Visit while this paradise is still relatively untouched.
Bol, Croatia
You don’t always have to leave Europe to find paradise. Croatia is a case in point. There are numerous blissful islands all over Croatia, but a beach highlight has to be Zlatni Rat in Bol.
Referred to as the Golden Horn, the spit of white-pebbled beach reaches out from the harbour town of Bol in a distinctive shape that has made it famous. The fact that there are pebbles rather than sand means the ocean is an exceptionally clear blue, and conditions are perfect for snorkelling.
Koh Tao, Thailand
There are countless idyllic beaches all across Asia, but Thailand’s coast boasts some of the most beautiful and most affordable.
One of the more quiet Thai islands, Koh Tao is a diver’s paradise. Both below and above the water, natural beauty is boundless. Backed by lush green rainforests and ragged cliffs, rent a beach bungalow and wile away the days to the slow pace of this island.
Hainan Island, China
South of China, Hainan Island is often called the Hawaii of the East. It is well-known for its beach resorts, tropical climate and mountainous, forest-covered interior. Pass time on one of the many beaches or walk one of the hiking trails, passing over waterfalls and suspension bridges.
In a bid to increase tourism, China instated a duty-free policy on this island. Plus, rent is around £8 a day.
Goa, India
Goa can be busy and tourist-infested. Some of Goa. The rest remains untouched and peaceful, with places such as Palolem and Agonda Beach providing the best in paradise island spots.
With reasonable flights from the UK, and even better prices once there, Goa remains in the top numbers of affordable paradisal habitats. Think: all you can eat meals for under a pound and wine that’s cheaper than water.
